SOIL #
A haunting dark fantasy about impossible choices, forbidden bargains, and the terrible price of miracles.
Ithica’s desperate wish for a child will never come true—but she doesn’t know why.
She doesn’t realize that an ancient god has chosen her as its vessel, granting her miraculous powers while stealing everything she holds dear. When seemingly endless winter and famine threaten to destroy The Village in the Shins, Ithica discovers she can grow abundant harvests, even through the coldest months. Her neighbors call her blessed, some call her a witch. They don’t see what’s growing in the shadows of her miracle.
The Old God is starving. And it hungers for youth.

- (X) Initial concept: 2020
- I had the idea for this story during the heigh of my obsession with Pet Sematary. It began as a D&D adventure where the character’s investigated a remote village where anyone laid to rest in the SOIL rises from the dead.
- (X) Prework: 2023
- ~12,000 words establishing the first act.
- Did a bunch of research on pottery and the way medieval people in Sweden and Norway lived in small rural communities.
- (—) First Draft: November 2025
- Target: ~45,000 words.
- In progress. Chugging along nicely.
